Raw Vegan Day 6 and 7 and so forth...

Image
Phew, I made it! Well let's review the last two days of the raw vegan challenge! Friday Day 6: Stuck to the same breakfast on Friday, woke up a bit late, so threw a bunch of fruit and veggies into a bag with a jar of tahini and made my smoothie to go. Breakfast: 2 bananas, strawberries, 2 mandarins, chia No snack today, in meetings all morning and didn't get out till lunch time. Lunch: Made a mixed large salad: spinach, red cabbage, white cabbage, raisins, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, carrots, tomato, radish, topped with tahini dressing. Snack: all natural fruit roll up, clementine Dinner: This was a treat, I didn't have that much food all day so after waiting 6 days, went to the only Raw Food Restaurant in the city. Yong Green Food on Brunswick st. in Fitzroy. It was really good, but I think because I had been raw all week, wasn't very filling despite ordering appetizer, main and dessert, I think it was quite impressive but I was hoping to feel more...

Raw Vegan Day 4 and 5

Image
Well day 4 started out with a plus and then took a major downturn. Having a very difficult day today and keep telling myself it's part of the detox and the extreme change in diet and to push through, I only have 3 more promised days (I was hoping to do more, but I said at least 7). I also know that because I had some bad stomach issues in the morning, that I am low on energy. The cravings are very bad today but I didn't break, I dreamt about crackers or bread all afternoon. Had the normal breakfast and snacks, and then around 9:30, about 2.5 hours I got up, I had an unfortunate case of running to the bathroom (4 times), I think this could be from the extreme amount of raw fruit and fiber I am ingesting, also the dates and coffee I had. (I decided not to give up coffee this week as I have always drank it black, so it has no sugar or milk in it). Tomorrow no coffee to see if I feel better in the morning. Breakfast: Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, bananas, mandarins and ...

Bruised and battered but never worn (written September 2010, never published)

Last Sunday I fell off my bike. It was one of those moments when you know something is going to happen seconds or miliseconds before it happens, but there is nothing you can do. In fact I am pretty sure looking back that I froze as I realized I was going to crash and that of course probably made the whole thing that much worse. I am completely fine, as usual....I like taking tumbles, I always tell people I have bad depth perception to make myself feel better. I remember a certain friend in fact for years laughing at me as he watched me trip over my own feet, miss the last step on the stairs, come home with a bloody knee after falling running, my right pinky finger doesn't straighten anymore after last June's bike fall, actually crash...into a women on the sidewalk. Ouch... Anyways, a year ago I fell three times in one week, a run, a bike ride, a set of stairs, I was so sore and bruised and a bit bloody I was wondering if someone was trying to tell me something. I haven't ...

Raw Vegan Day 3!

Image
Day 3 and counting! I have to admit, I am really excited to still be going strong on this raw challenge! I had a bit of a mishap today and got some bad stomach cramps, but I really believe it was due to a stomach bug I had from the last few weeks and not the diet, at least I know now that I am not allergic to anything such as gluten, as I am not eating anything but fruits, veg, nuts and seeds. Started yoga today! That was really nice, it's called Vinyasa, it was a 60 minute class that has repetitive holds that are quicker and then meditation at the end. It was a great work out and relaxing as well. Although I was slipping on my mat a little, whoops. I am exhausted again tonight, I am hoping it's not the diet, I am completely fine all day and I had no cravings today, in fact I was quite hungry during yoga, felt almost light headed towards the end of the class. I had my lunch at 2pm, and only one snack in between, so I am guessing I didn't eat enough, but I maintained being...

Raw Vegan Day 2

Image
For the last few days, I've been cleansing and cleaning, inside and out, in body and feelings...... A shower of juices, a scrubbing with nuts, a soaking in smoothies, restoring my gut...... Shiny and glowing, my skin sings a song, eyes are bright and clear, all day long..... Getting ready for spring, for flowers to bloom, to dance and swirl, in every corner and room..... Well that's not my poem, but I loved it. Today was a success! Although I am completely exhausted right now I am going to chalk that up to being a Monday and having a long, tiring day, and not to do with the new diet. Had some really interesting finds today! First of all, if you are having a questions or actually reading this blog and intrigued, found this awesome article today (among the WEALTH) of information the web about raw diets. Raw Vegan Detox Challenge

Hello again friends. This is a different type of post, for anyone interested, I have decided since it's spring, it's time for some spring cleaning. Only this time instead of my wardrobe (let's face it I have a lack of clothes not an overabundance in OZ), I'm going to clean out my diet. I have been a vegetarian for about 17 years now and up until about 2 years ago I ate anything that wasn't meat. Then I got a bit smarter and tried to also cut out anything that came from an animal, no eggs, cheese, milk, and the likes. Although, I am simply not very strict about that at all. I don't BUY anything that comes from an animal so I would say my diet is 85% give or take strict, but I often give in to temptations at work, restaurants or out, to cheese, candy bars, ice cream, pizza, etc. Anyhow, I have become a 9-5er, aka I sit at a desk for at least four hours a day and then I sit in meetings or family visits for the other 4 hours a day and my waistline took a small toll ...
The secret to success. I can´t begin to explain even if I tried. I have written this story so many times in my head on a run, I am starting to wish I had a tape recorder so I could actually have already written it. Now I´ll just botch it up. I just got done reading Ultramarathon Man where on his 50 mile plus runs he started recording thoughts and clips for his book and I think its brilliant. My most creative moments are when I am running. There is little that gives me the same pleasure that running does. Now I run somewhere between 3 to 6 days a week, depending on good or bad weeks, anywhere from say 2 to 15 miles (just Google the kilometers :) but there is nothing I enjoy more than setting off on a run with my phone in my pocket, earphones in my hand and not a care in the world. I want to know how far I´ll go and don´t give a sh** when I´ll return. So moving forward, every time I have a good long run I write this story or something like it, I try to capture in words wh...
